A little while back, we covered Instant Hot Water Taps in one of our advice articles. We briefly touched on the matter of water usage/cost when compared to a Kettle, but today, we’d like to expand upon that point a little further.

Chairs are something a lot of individuals will probably take for granted when designing their dream kitchen; they’re rarely the focus in quite the same way appliances, work surfaces, or even decorative aspects are. And yet, they’re a considerably important component, arguably one of the most important of all; I mean, as obvious a question as it is to ask, where the heck are you going to sit if there’s no kitchen chairs to be found?

A fairly frequent topic covered on this blog before is that of space. In the modern age, where house prices and rent rates are high, space often comes at a surplus for many people. Whilst this tends to be felt most when it comes to choosing appliances or mapping out worktops, but an often unconsidered factor is the use of pocket doors inside your living space.

One of our favourite topics at Silke is the idea of Colour Theory, as it applies to kitchens specifically. For those that aren’t quite as up to speed, Colour Theory is, well, the theory of colour and it’s uses. This can extend to anything from what colours indicate in an aesthetic sense, the kind of emotions certain colours can provoke or evoke in a person, whether certain colours do and don’t work in certain contexts (individually or in tandem with each other, etc.)

Design in a kitchen context is about more then simply looking good; it’s about creating a space that is efficient in its function, in addition to having an eye-pleasing form and balancing the two of them in perfect harmony. There’s no one way to do this, of course- form and functionality are subjective and what works for one person won’t immediately work for another, and so on and so forth. Baring that in mind, we’d like to highlight one particularly clever form of kitchen design that we think is, by far and away, exceedingly phenomenal in how well it blends both; that of the Galley Kitchen.

A favourite topic of ours is that of design, both in a general sense and more specific ones. Partially this is because we’re a company founded on a particular design principle- that of the ultra-modern, German-style kitchen full of cutting-edge appliances and decked out in sleek stainless steel- but it’s also because there are a wealth of things to talk about. By its very nature, design is subjective; what works for certain people won’t work for others, and therefore no one school of design is any more “correct” or “wrong” then the other.

As design becomes a more centralised facet of our kitchens, we often begin to see certain elements of trends from the past repurposed or reinvigorated somewhat in the modern kitchen setting. One of the most notable instances of this occurrence is in splashbacks.
